Patricia Fitzpatrick

Patricia Fitzpatrick (she/her/hers), PhD, is a professor in the Department of Geography and an instructor in the Master’s in Development Practice — Indigenous Focus program at the University of Winnipeg. Trish is a settler in the territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples and the homeland of the Métis Peoples, located in Treaty One. Her research program focuses on different aspects of environmental governance surrounding major- and mega-project development in Canada. Her academic and professional experience spans the areas of impact assessment, public participation and engagement, environmental governance, follow-up, monitoring and adaptive management (including independent oversight), and corporate social responsibility. Over the past twenty years, Trish has been involved in fourteen Canadian assessment and regulatory hearings for mining and energy projects, focusing predominantly on the provincial and territorial north.
